The Start of a New Term

Our welcome back Skype meeting on Sunday was very informative and has got me excited for what this new term and module will bring. I am looking forward to getting stuck into module 2 and starting some research.

I found the screen sharing and unihub walk through incredibly informative, as I have found the site pretty confusing in the past. I am looking forward to using the online library resources and am also planning to utilise my blog and read others blogs more often this term. Adesola explained that there is a link on her blog page that you can click and you subscribe, so therefore, get an email every time she posts. This is extremely, helpful as I have quite a busy working life and find I miss blog posts quite often. Now I will never miss anything and will be up to date with new announcements and articles.

I plan on posting some of the interesting articles I found during Module 1, because hopefully they might benefit other people as much as they did me. Looking forward to chatting to you all some more soon, sharing our findings and learning together and can't wait to start Module 2.

The Start of Something New

This is my first ever blog post so hopefully it will be a success... My name is Lisa and I am currently performing in the West End Show, 42nd Street.  This week, I have started my Professional Practice in Dance (Specialisation) MA and had my first group Skype session, last Friday. I was apprehensive as to what this new venture would entail and didn't really have a clue what to expect. The Skype meeting was very useful and helped to calm my nerves considerably, having not done anything academic for a very, very long time. The conversation involved students who were at different stages of the course. Some that had completed module 1 and some that had completed 1 and 2. This turned out to be very informative as they were able to give tips on what to expect and said it was perfectly normal to feel apprehensive and overwhelmed at the beginning and it would all make sense as Module 1 unfolded. It was also refreshing to hear that quite a few of them had not studied academically for a

A Busy Couple of weeks.

So it's been a busy couple of weeks for me but I feel it has also been a bit of a learning curve! We had a cast change at 42nd Street. Half of our old cast have left and moved on to other things and we have 22 new members of the company. I have also taken on board an extra understudy responsibility but more about that later. The new cast members all seem so lovely and have fitted in to the 42nd Street family with no fuss at all. We were doubling up, doing rehearsals during the day, for the cast change and still doing the show at night, so it was a tiring time but exciting too. Not surprisingly, this hectic schedule took its toll on the existing cast members which resulted in me having to take on a role in the show, that I don't even cover, one day after the new company's first performance. I played this particular part, the role of Phyllis, for 6 shows and there was a lot of pressure on my shoulders, to do a good job at a part I wasn't supposed to know. I definitely l

AOLs and reflection, essays galore!

I thought I'd write a post about how I'm finding module one. It was hard to think about what to write for my AOLs at first. Thinking that nothing I have learnt throughout my career was worth writing about. I have since found that I have a lot to say! I am enjoying writing about things I am passionate about and also finding references to back my opinion, I didn't think I'd be able to find people who agree with me! This is exciting, I'm slightly concerned that I have 2 more to write before the deadline and thats without my reflections essay, but I'm finding it's useful to write down my thoughts as I go along and so I feel I have a good basis. I'm learning a lot about myself as this process goes on, what kind of person I am and also how I am perceived by others. I'm enjoying being a student again and learning new skills. I am trying to not get overwhelmed by the amount of work that I still have to do, but again, this is something I will be able to wri
