Research Proposal....

I thought I'd write a quick blog about preparing my research proposal.

I'm finding it quite hard to think of an exact subject to research.
I have read many books and articles about how to do a research project and now have a clearer idea of what it is I am trying to achieve. I have many ideas about subjects that I am interested in but its hard to pin point exactly what I want to research. The more I read and the more I look into certain subjects, I am now starting to realise that I don't need to know the exact question right now but to concentrate on finding different articles and scholars that have researched before and my question hopefully will become clear.  Again it comes down to me wanting to know the answers to everything before I have begun!

I hope this makes sense to all the other module 2s out there. It would be nice to hear how you are getting on with your proposals and what you are finding out along the way.

  1. I might be too late, but the advice someone gave me when I was in module 2 was to find the research gaps. Find the point where your interests collide with a gap in the research, and there's your golden opportunity (or opportunities). Hope things are going well!

Reflection

We did it! We handed in our last module. I have spent some time going over old journal entries and reflecting on what I have found out about myself over this process. This final module was the most extensive so far. As a process, this has been time consuming, sometimes stressful but ultimately rewarding and a positive experience. I have found it difficult to keep motivated and meet my targets. To help counter this, I implemented a strategy that included realistic target setting through a working diary. This has enabled me to systematically complete the module, improve my organisational skills and has reminded me that through hard work and perseverance, I am able to reach my goals. Exploring different research strategies   encouraged me to analyse myself and help me grow in confidence, realising that I wasn’t searching for an answer but for more enlightening information that lead me to more questions. I decided to take a pragmatic path, dealing with my research in a sensible way...

The Start of a New Term

Our welcome back Skype meeting on Sunday was very informative and has got me excited for what this new term and module will bring. I am looking forward to getting stuck into module 2 and starting some research. I found the screen sharing and unihub walk through incredibly informative, as I have found the site pretty confusing in the past. I am looking forward to using the online library resources and am also planning to utilise my blog and read others blogs more often this term. Adesola explained that there is a link on her blog page that you can click and you subscribe, so therefore, get an email every time she posts. This is extremely, helpful as I have quite a busy working life and find I miss blog posts quite often. Now I will never miss anything and will be up to date with new announcements and articles. I plan on posting some of the interesting articles I found during Module 1, because hopefully they might benefit other people as much as they did me. Looking forward to chatt...

Skype Session Module 3

We have just finished our Skype meeting about analysis and synthesis. Thank you Maria, this was very informative. Thank you everyone for your input on my topic, it was extremely helpful. I'm now going to go away and look at more literature including 'Dancers talking dance' and try to find some patterns to start triangulating data. I intend to use my field work opinions as a bonus and concentrate more on the patterns found in my literature, I will now also start to look at the patterns in the silences, where no literature is found. This was a very interesting topic as I'd never thought that people not talking about something was as eye opening as lots of people talking about the same subject. There was an interesting point made about how different countries perceive audiences and also how audience members in different countries perceive performance. Maybe this is something I can look into. I was pleased to find out that my framework can evolve as my research progr...
